German doctors are calling for a constant lockdown, because loosening would lead to too many contacts and vaccines still couldn’t break the third wave. More than 17,000 new infections were recently reported to the RKI.
German medical officials are calling for a constant lockdown on the corona pandemic. “Relaxation means that people have too many contacts,” said the president of the Federal Association of Physicians of the Public Health Service, Ute Teichert, of the “Rheinische Post”.
Vaccines don’t break the third wave
Combined with the high number of cases, traceability for health authorities will be “difficult or even impossible,” Teichert continued. “And if we can’t trace the contacts of infected people, then the pandemic will get completely out of hand.”
Vaccines couldn’t break the third wave you’re in, Teichert said. Therefore, it is essential to reduce the number of cases. “This can only be done with a constant lockdown,” emphasized the medical officer. In addition, there is still a lack of specialized personnel in the health authorities, he criticized.
Testing, vaccination and monitoring applications
Parallel to the blockade, concepts would also have to be developed on how loosening might be possible with a test and vaccination strategy and applications for digital monitoring, “but only when the number of cases is reduced.” This strategy also includes explaining exactly how individuals and institutions should proceed if a rapid test indicates an infection. The succinct suggestion “Tell your GP or health department” is not enough and leaves many helpless.
RKI: more than 17,000 new infections
Meanwhile, German health authorities reported 17,051 new infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 249 new deaths were recorded in 24 hours. Exactly a week ago, the RKI had recorded 15,813 new infections and 248 new deaths in one day.
The number of new infections reported in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (the incidence in seven days9 according to the RKI in the morning was 132.3 in the whole country and, therefore, slightly below the level of the previous day (135, two).
