Bundestag CDU member Karin Strenz lost consciousness on a flight from Cuba to Germany. Despite an emergency landing in Ireland, she could no longer be helped. He died at the age of 53.
Member of the CDU of the Bundestag Karin Strenz has passed away. It collapsed on the flight back from Cuba to Germany, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional group spokesman Eckhardt Rehberg told the dpa news agency.
The reason for the 53-year-old trip to Cuba was initially unclear. According to a report in the newspaper “Bild”, he lost consciousness on the plane. Despite an emergency landing in Ireland, it was no longer possible to help her. According to Rehberg, she dated her husband.
Member of the Bundestag since 2009
Strenz had been a member of the Bundestag since 2009. In the 2009, 2013 and 2017 elections, he won one of six direct terms in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From 2002 to 2006 and from 2007 to 2009 he was a member of the state parliament in the Northeast. In the Bundestag he last served on the Defense Committee, among other things.
In early 2020 there were records of the CDU politician regarding the flow of money from the authoritarian ruled Azerbaijan. At the time, the Frankfurt prosecutor spoke of some four million euros that had flowed through British mailbox companies and Baltic accounts between 2008 and 2016. The investigation was conducted for bribery and money laundering.
Despite the accusations, Strenz remained a member of the Bundestag, but did not want to run in the upcoming September elections.
