Health authorities reported 16,033 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in one day. In addition, 207 new coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in 24 hours, according to RKI figures from Saturday morning. The data reflects the status of the RKI dashboard at 03.41 am, subsequent changes or additions to the RKI are possible.
Seven-day incidence just under 100
According to the RKI, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported in seven days was 99.9 across the country on Saturday morning and thus slightly higher than the previous day (95.6). Its previous high was reached on December 22 at 197.6.
3,359 new infections more than seven days ago
Last Saturday, the RKI had registered 12,674 new cases and 239 new deaths in one day. That’s 3,359 new infections over seven days ago. On January 14, the peak of 1,244 recently reported deaths was reached. Among new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reached on December 18, at 33,777, but it contained 3,500 late reports.
More than 2.6 million infections since the start of the pandemic
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has counted 2,645,783 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected. The total number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection increased to 74,565.
The value of R increases to 1.18
According to RKI’s management report on Friday night, the national seven-day R-value was 1.18 (previous day 1.12). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 118 more people. The value represents the onset of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
