The federal government classifies Poland as an area of high incidence of corona. As of Sunday, only entry from the neighboring country with a negative PCR test is allowed. Other regions, on the other hand, are completely removed from the risk list.

In view of the sharp increase in the number of corona infections, the federal government classifies Poland as a high-incidence area. As of Sunday, entry from the neighboring country bordering Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Saxony is only allowed with a negative PCR test. This was announced by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

In Poland, the number of infections has increased dramatically in recent days. Countries and regions in which the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants exceeds 200 in a week are classified as high-incidence areas. There is no official incidence value for Poland. The absolute number of new infections in one day was 25,998 on Friday, just below the record value of 27,875 in November.

For comparison: in Germany, the RKI reported 17,482 new infections within 24 hours on Friday, significantly less than in Poland. But Germany has more than twice the population.

The proportion of mutants in Poland is more than 60 percent.

According to the Polish Ministry of Health, the British variant of the virus is now responsible for more than 60 percent of new infections in Poland. So far, travelers from Poland can still be screened 48 hours after crossing the border. There are no effective controls for this. On the other hand, it is easier to check the obligation to take the test on entry, even if no stationary border controls are foreseen as at the borders with the Czech Republic or the Austrian state of Tyrol. However, it is possible to conduct random checks behind the border as part of the so-called veil chase.

In addition to Poland, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Kuwait, Paraguay and Uruguay will also be on the list of high incidence areas as of Sunday.

However, for the earlier virus variant areas Great Britain and Ireland, travel restrictions will be significantly relaxed. So far, both countries have been classified as areas with particularly dangerous virus variants, for which a 14-day quarantine and an entry ban apply for certain groups of people. As of Sunday, both countries will once again be “normal” risk zones. Participants only have to be quarantined for ten days and can get rid of it with another test after five days.

The Portuguese Algarve is no longer a risk zone since Sunday

The quarantine and mandatory tests for another popular holiday area for Germans will be completely lifted: the Portuguese Algarve will be removed from the list of risk areas, as before Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands. However, Algarve hotels are currently unable to accept tourists. That means: Holidays on the beaches of the Portuguese south coast are not yet possible, unlike in Mallorca.

In addition to the Algarve, Galicia in northwestern Spain, a region in Finland, Southeast Asia in Malaysia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean are also completely removed from the risk list. The Caribbean island of Curaçao and the individual regions of Finland, Croatia and Norway are new to the list.
