The dismissal of the club icon comes at a somewhat surprising moment. On Sunday yesterday, Chelsea beat second-division Luton Town 3-1 in the FA Cup. A week earlier, the Londoners won the Premier League against Fulham (1-0).

Disappointing 9th place

Regardless of the two victories, the season has been a disappointing one for the ambitious Blues, who spent around € 250 million on newcomers over the summer. In the Premier League, title ambitions were calculated. Currently, the club is only in ninth place.

Lampard took over at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2019. His contract runs until 2022. An official announcement of his dismissal from the club is still pending.

To update (11:00 am): In the meantime, it is obviously already clear who will follow Lampard. According to ‘Sky’, Thomas Tuchel is the 42-year-old’s designated successor. The obligation of the German technician is almost fixed. Tuchel was fired as Paris St. Germain coach in December.
