Florian Kohfeldt was really angry about the poor performance of his team after the 2-0 draw against Union Berlin: “One or the other has already dreamed again.”

Florian Kohfeldt likes to explain and above all he likes to explain a lot about football. After every game, the Werder coach likes to do a detailed in-depth analysis of his team’s performance. But on Saturday afternoon at Weser Stadium, Kohfeldt didn’t feel like talking: “They are serving me today, I’m furious. What should I do in-depth analysis?”

Werder had given a very poor performance against Union Berlin, the surprise team of the first half of the season, on a “pitch black day”, as Kohfeldt called it, and lost “well deserved” 0: 2 .

It was very, very bad today in all respects and for over 90 minutes. We offered an achievement that you can’t win a Bundesliga game with. We weren’t there from the first second.

Werder play against relegation

How did that happen? Kohfeldt was lost. After the victory against Mainz 05 and the success in the cup against Hannover 96 before Christmas, Bremen hoped to be able to carry the tailwind into the new year, but Kohfeldt suspected: “Perhaps one or the other has already dreamed after two victories to year-end. “But that Werder don’t have to dream this season, they just have to fight not to be relegated, the weak performance against Union Berlin made very clear. Because Werder played at times as a relegated team.

We gave away the first part, our dueling behavior was a shame.

Bad training is not an explanation

Before the first game of the new year, Kohfeldt had warned not to stop for a second now, to have always sharpened the senses. And he got rowdy last Wednesday when a training session didn’t go up to his expectations and some of his pros didn’t have the right attitude. But Kohfeldt had believed the matter was over.

As of Thursday, there were really no more signs of this, our training sessions were good. The final workout was great. The tension before the game was good. And then we go out and play like this.

But Kohfeldt didn’t want to accept the fact that he hadn’t been well during training once during the week as an excuse. In general, “there is no excuse for performance,” said the Werder coach: “But what we have offered is not explained by a bad unit.”

“We have to learn from him quickly, that’s not how it works.”

Union Berlin, which has now even dropped to fourth place, painfully demonstrated to Bremen how aggressive, physical and active football is played. At Werder, on the other hand, nothing went right. “We were passive, we weren’t in duels, we didn’t win second balls,” Kohfeldt said annoyed: “We didn’t do everything we wanted to do.”

The next Saturday night was already planned for the Werder coach: he would watch the game again, he would analyze it. Then there would be one-on-one conversations with the players on Sunday to work on the hard landing and filter the reasons. Werder is still in table 13. four points before relegation place, after this poor performance we must add a ‘fair’. If Bremen still do not score at home, it will again be uncomfortable earlier than Werder expected before Christmas. That’s why Kohfeldt warned before leaving Weser Stadium: “We have to learn fast, it doesn’t work like that.”
