It wasn’t a club for 13 months

He is said to have signed the contract a week ago, and Mauricio Pochettino has been officially confirmed as Paris Saint-Germain coach. The French serial master introduced the successor to the fired Thomas Tuchel on Saturday afternoon. The 48-year-old Argentine, who ran for PSG between 2001 and 2003, is now tied to the capital until 2022 with the option for one more year.

For the former defender, it is his first coaching job since he left after five years with Tottenham Hotspur of the English first division in November 2019. As a result, Pochettino repeatedly partnered with clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The move to FC Bayern Munich was also briefly on the agenda before Hansi Flick turned out to be the best possible long-term solution.

Pochettino “very happy” – PSG boss: “It fits perfectly with our ambitions”

“I am very happy and honored to be the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain,” Pochettino said on Saturday. I want to thank the club’s management for the trust they have placed in me. “As you know, this club has always had a special place in my heart. I have wonderful memories, especially of the unique atmosphere at the Parc des Princes. I return to the club today with great ambition and humility and I look forward to working with some of the most talented players in the world. This team has fantastic potential and my staff and I will do everything possible to achieve the best for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions. We will also do everything in our power to give our team the combative and offensive style of play that the Parisian fans have always loved. “

President Nasser Ghanim Al-Khelaïfi added: “I am proud that our former captain is returning to Paris Saint-Germain, as the club has always been his home. Mauricio’s return fits in perfectly with our ambitions and will be another exciting chapter for the club that I am sure fans will enjoy. With the signing of Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain is determined to develop and advance the club in the years to come. “

Pochettino, new PSG coach: salary slightly lower than Tuchel

Pochettino’s predecessor Tuchel led PSG to the Champions League final last season for the first time since the Qatari owners led by President Al-Khelaïfi entered the Champions League final, but lost 1 -0 against Bayern. With the German, the club won two championship titles, a cup, a league cup and twice the French Super Cup. After 17 games this season, PSG are in third place, one point behind Olympique Lyon and LOSC Lille.

Pochettino is still untitled, but established the “Spurs” in the Premier League among the best teams during his tenure and scored an average of 1.84 points in 293 competitive matches. Like Tuchel, the Argentine had reached the final of the “premier class” the year before his dismissal, which Tottenham lost to Liverpool.

At PSG, according to “Le Parisien”, Pochettino should earn a slightly lower salary than his predecessor Tuchel. The German earned around 7.5 million euros a year with different bonuses. With the “Spurs” Pochettino got around 9.6 million euros.
