Thousands of ravers end with illegal party
An attempt by the police to break up a large illegal party in Brittany initially fails due to violent resistance from the participants. A police vehicle catches fire. Only when the music stops do the guests leave the venue. The organizers are so far unknown.
An illegal New Year’s Eve party with around 2,500 participants in western France is now breaking up. The music had died down and numerous celebrators had meanwhile left the premises, it was said from the prefecture of the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany. There was no “police intervention”.
According to the prefecture, the first partisans left the party in Lieuron, south of Rennes, early in the morning. An association that campaigns for risk prevention at raves estimated the number of partygoers left in the morning at “a few hundred.”
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that the rave party had “ended non-violently” thanks to the numerous police officers on site and intensive screening. The police will monitor all participants when they leave the site and will issue warnings based on fees. It is still unknown who organized the party. Those responsible face heavy fines or even prison. According to eyewitness reports, the organizers or their assistants were able to dismantle the music system in the morning and transport it in the truck without being disturbed by the police.
The professionally organized New Years Eve party in an empty warehouse in Lieuron got completely out of hand on Thursday. Despite the requirements of Corona and the curfew, ravers from different regions of France and abroad celebrated in the small town of Brittany. When the police tried to break up the party, they were violently attacked and displaced.
According to the police, one of the officers’ vehicles was set on fire during the riots and three others were damaged. In addition, the police were thrown with bottles and stones. The prosecution opened an investigation into the riots.
