The turn of the year was much quieter than usual due to the corona pandemic. Also in northern Germany, police and firefighters registered significantly fewer deployments compared to previous years.

In the period from 6 pm to 6 am, the Hamburg fire brigade went out in 89 reported fires. Most were small fires, like burning garbage cans.

But there were also two major fires: in the Winterhude district, a Christmas tree set fire to an apartment; two people were injured. In the Sasel district, the fire department had to put out a burning electrical distribution box in a basement; there were no injuries. Firefighters’ rescue service was on duty 339 times: “Fortunately, as it stands, there have been no significant or noteworthy emergency operations related to the use of New Year’s Eve fireworks,” the fire department said. .
