At almost 4 am on Wednesday morning, a walker alerted the police in Lübeck (Schleswig-Holstein): In front of him was a seriously injured man (38) on the pavement!

The ER doctor and paramedics fought for his life on the stone slabs for nearly an hour, resuscitating the 38-year-old man over and over again, but around 6 a.m. the man died from his injuries at a clinic in Lübeck.

Now the police have arrested a suspect! According to officials, he is a 57-year-old man who is said to have surprised and shot the 38-year-old during a robbery. He is now under investigation for involuntary manslaughter.

How did the drama of death unfold just before the New Year?

According to police and prosecutors, the 38-year-old man broke into a seemingly empty house with an accomplice Wednesday morning. The duo entered through a basement window and then met the 57-year-old on the second floor. “This scared the intruders, who then fled,” police said.

Then a persecution developed! The 57-year-old ran after the men and pulled out a gun. The subsequent victim was shot three times, and his accomplice apparently escaped unharmed. The victim was previously reported to have cuts.

Revolver, long gun, ammunition and hand grenade found

When police searched the home that night, officials found the 57-year-old on the roof; there he was arrested without resistance. Next to him was a pistol. Two other firearms, a revolver and a long pistol, are said to have been found in the house. The man was said to have a gun license for all guns. Police did not say if he was a resident of the home.

But: The officers also found boxes of ammunition, and a hand grenade!

The defendant must appear before the judge on New Year’s Eve. I shouldn’t have commented on the act until now.
