Weather in Germany: New Year’s Eve will be frosty

Dirty weather with rain, snow and sleet – this is the German Weather Service (DWD) forecast for the next few days. It’s true that the snowfall will come from the west on New Year’s Eve, but little should stay up to six more degrees below 400 meters, said DWD meteorologist Markus Übel.

According to the forecast, a white winter landscape is reserved for the higher elevations of the lower mountain ranges. Starting at the weekend, this could change with the drop in temperatures.

According to the forecast, a few centimeters of fresh snow can be expected in the Eifel and Hunsrück on New Year’s Eve, during the day also in Rothaargebirge, Taunus, Westerwald and the mountainous region of northern Hesse above 400 to 500 meters. It should also snow in the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb.

Clouds in the north, sun in the south

According to DWD, on New Years Eve it freezes down to the lowlands so it can be slippery. There are rarely larger spaces in clouds.

According to the forecast, the north will have to be satisfied with dirty weather in the new year 2021, while the northeast will temporarily snow a bit down to the lower elevations. The south, on the other hand, can probably expect some sun. According to the DWD, temperatures drop towards Sunday, so new snow may also remain at lower elevations.
