The people of Pompeii apparently indulged in fast food from time to time before the destruction of the ancient city. During excavations, archaeologists have found a snack bar that is surprisingly well preserved.

Rooster on a stick or lamb to go instead of hamburgers and fries: apparently, in the ancient city of Pompeii fast food was also eaten, but not the same dishes as today. The reason for the assumption is a find made by archaeologists. Researchers have discovered an exceptionally well-preserved street restaurant: with a colorfully painted counter and food prints.

Archaeologists also discovered duck bones and the remains of pigs, goats, fish and snails in clay pots, which may have been cooked together. The findings are said to provide insight into eating habits in Pompeii at the time of the catastrophe in AD 79

The place was apparently closed in a hurry.

“The analysis options are extraordinary because the whole area was excavated for the first time,” said the head of excavations at Pompeii, Massimo Osanna. “The place appears to have closed hastily and has been abandoned by its owners,” Osanna said.

According to him, investigators also found the remains of a man who was apparently killed by the hot volcanic fumes while holding the lid of one of the pots, possibly a thief or a starving resident fleeing the volcanic eruption.
