Violent explosion shakes Nashville

The American city of Nashville is hit by a violent explosion on Boxing Day. The emergency services still do not know what exactly happened. But a trailer may have exploded. The first photographs of the city show enormous damage.

In the morning in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, there was a violent explosion. Images from the WKRN television station showed fire trucks and various fires on the street. Radio station NPR reported on Twitter that parts of the nearby riverwalk had been evacuated.

Police confirmed on Twitter that there was an explosion in a vehicle at 6:30 a.m. About two hours later, the fires shown were clearly contained. A rescue worker had told WKRN that a caravan had exploded and several buildings had been damaged. It was not initially known whether the people were injured. The reason for the explosion was also not clear at the moment.

Dozens of users on social networks had taken photos and videos showing black smoke above the city center. There is tremendous destruction in some clips. From burned trees to broken windows and smaller fire sources to lots of rubble and ash.
