Radio license fee: Deutschlandradio announces austerity measures

[ad_1]

Deutschlandradio wants to resolve the specific consequences for the house following the urgent request for the transmission fee, which was rejected by the Federal Constitutional Court. “Now we will decide the savings measures that can be implemented in the short term and we will await the decision in the main process,” said a spokesman for the dpa news agency.

In the next four years, the public broadcaster would lack a total of about 66.5 million euros if the price adjustment does not occur. This “would inevitably have important consequences for programming.”

The Federal Constitutional Court had previously rejected urgent requests from ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio against the blocking of the transmission rate increase by Saxony-Anhalt. Originally, the monthly contribution was supposed to increase from € 17.50 to € 18.36 on January 1, 2021.

15 federal states had agreed to the premium increase, only Saxony-Anhalt had blocked it. As a result, the corresponding state treaty cannot enter into force. In the current process on broadcasters’ constitutional complaints, the court will decide at a later date.
