Annalena Baerbock, president of the Greens, is considered suitable for chancellor with a view to the next federal elections. “Yes, I trust myself to be in the Chancellery,” Baerbock told “Bild am Sonntag.” Its co-chair, Robert Habeck, had already expressed interest in October. In the next federal election campaign, the Greens want to present a candidate for chancellor for the first time. With both presidents now trusting in the highest government office, “we will decide together what is best for the country and our party,” Baerbock said. The decision should be made in spring 2021.
Baerbock doesn’t see the fact that he has no prior government experience as a reason for exclusion: “For everyone currently in the conversation, the following applies: No one fell from the sky as Chancellor. Everyone would have to learn new things in office. ” Like other candidates would have to learn, she would bring “international experience and European roots.”
When asked if he had the nerves, the stamina in negotiations, the psychological and physical strength for the Chancellery, Baerbock replied: “Yes, you need all these factors. And believe me: three years as a party leader, member of parliament and mother of young children is quite difficult. “
Baerbock strongly advocated a government led by the Greens. The next few years would bring great changes. Industry must be converted to be climate neutral and social inequality must be addressed. “That’s why we bring the Greens, that’s what Robert brings, that’s why I bring the knowledge, responsibility and passion.”
