Ronaldo’s stubborn demeanor doesn’t fit his fair choice

The choice is well deserved: FC Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski is the first Bundesliga professional to become a world footballer. Runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo obviously doesn’t like it at all. Unlike Messi, he had voted fairly.
AIn the end, the vote was overwhelming. Robert Lewandowski won the election as world sovereign footballer, with 52 points relegated the two decisive players of the last decade to places two and three: Cristiano Ronaldo got 38 points, Lionel Messi 35. Lewandowski made a debut with his brilliant performances: first a Bundesliga professional won the prestigious election.
Ronaldo was also able to acknowledge that the Polish striker had done an outstanding job in the service of FC Bayern this year. The Juventus forward gave all the points to the Champions League winner. Surprisingly, he placed his longtime rival Messi in second place and Kylian Mbappé in third.
FC Barcelona’s Messi, however, ignored Ronaldo and put Paris professionals Neymar and Kylian Mbappé ahead of Lewandowski. In the voting, the votes of the national coaches and captains of the selection teams of the FIFA member associations, as well as selected journalists and fans from around the world were equally decisive. Voting was possible until December 9.

So far so bad. Because when Ronaldo was turned on by video at the festive ceremony in Zurich, he looked like a stubborn child. As Lewandowski in a tuxedo and bow tie received the trophy from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the Juventus star, dressed in a black sweater, white shirt and tie, frowned. Messi, linked from Barcelona, wore at least a black suit and tie, depending on the occasion of the election.
Will Ronaldo triumph again in the elections? It shouldn’t get any easier in the future. Ronaldo has won the vote five times so far, Messi has triumphed in six soccer world awards. But now they are both old professionals: Ronaldo 35, Messi 33. Their time could be up.
From the point of view of Manuel Neuer and Joachim Löw, there was no way to avoid Lewandowski in the elections. The captain and coach of the German national team put the winner of FC Bayern Munich first in their vote. Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and his former teammate Thiago filled the other spots, while Löw also voted for Kylian Mbappé and Sergio Ramos.
