Robert Lewandowski named 2020 FIFA world footballer

RObert Lewandowski of FC Bayern Munich has been named FIFA World Player of the Year. The 32-year-old Pole beat Argentine Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus Turin in the World Association vote. The award took place Thursday night at a digital gala. Manuel Neuer was honored as the best goalkeeper in the world in 2020, while Hansi Flick missed the world coach’s freestyle. The Bayern manager had to admit defeat to Jürgen Klopp against English champions FC Liverpool, who repeated the triumph of the previous year.

FC Bayern had won the German championship, the DFB Cup and the Champions League title in recent months. Lewandowski was the top scorer in all three competitions. In addition, the record champions triumphed in the German and European Super Cup.

In the voting, the votes of the national coaches and captains of the selection teams of the FIFA member associations, selected journalists and fans from all over the world were equally decisive. Voting was possible until December 9.

Goalscorer on duty: Robert Lewandowski has scored 251 goals in 332 Bundesliga games so far.  It is currently number three on the list of best

Top scorer in all classes

There were four professionals on the team of the year who had won the triple with Bayern: Lewandowski, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich and Thiago.

England’s Lucy Bronze, who won the Champions League with Olympique Lyon, was voted World Footballer of the Year. In the choice of the world goalkeeper, France’s Sarah Bouhaddi of Lyon was chosen.
