Bayern recently had to settle for two draws in the league. On Wednesday, Coach Flick’s team hosted the undefeated wolves, who suffered their first loss.
For Bayern Munich there were two draws in the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig and Union Berlin. Coach Hansi Flick’s team had to hand over the championship lead to Bayer Leverkusen.
On Wednesday, Munich hosted VfL Wolfsburg. Coach Oliver Glasner’s team has yet to lose a game this season, but it was their first loss against Bayern. The Munich team won almost 2: 1.
Wolfsburg took the lead first
Less than ten minutes were played when Maximilian Philipp took advantage of Leroy Sané’s uncertainty, snatched the ball and pushed it to make it 1-0 (5th) for the Wolves. The Bavarians only had a puzzled look as the Wolfsburgs cheered.
After half an hour Philipp almost increased it, but his shot from about 14 meters misses the right post. David Alaba’s thigh was in the middle. Shortly before the break, Thomas Müller crossed Leroy Sané, whose shot went over the goal.
Lewandowski turned the game around
A short time later, Robert Lewandowski led Bayern’s tie at 1: 1 (45º + 1). After the half-time break, the Bayern star rose to 2-1 (50th) for Munich. Lewandowski broke the 250-hit sound barrier the night before the freestyle soccer World Cup as only the third professional. Only Gerd Müller (365) and Klaus Fischer (268) scored more goals in the Bundesliga than the Bayern star.
Shortly before the end, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer saved his team’s victory when he stopped Bartosz Bialek’s shot with a brilliant save (85th). The game ended 2-1 for the hosts. The goalkeeper then said he had an “unusual amount” to do at the moment and added to “Sky”: “But that’s my job, my job. Nobody does it for us.”
Despite the victory, Bayern failed to take the championship lead. Bayer Leverkusen won 4-0 at 1. FC Cologne and so he continues to be the leader of the Bundesliga.
