Hamburg today enters a crown lockdown and is largely shutting down public life. To avoid contact, all stores beyond daily necessities will be closed until January 10.
Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) has issued a government statement due to the lockdown at the beginning of the last meeting of Hamburg citizens this year. It was the fifth since the pandemic broke out. NDR.de is now broadcasting the following discussion on this page via live stream.
Elementary students must wear a mask.
Schools and kindergartens are open before and after the Christmas holidays, but there is no compulsory attendance. It is not yet clear how many parents actually send their children to school. What’s new is that primary school pupils are also required to wear a mask in class. More than half of the schools also use the “Learn Hamburg” platform for digital teaching.
“Another good healthcare offer”
Kita children should be cared for at home as much as possible. Social Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD) defended the decision Tuesday on the Hamburg Journal of NDR television: “We wanted to continue to offer parents good childcare.”
Contact restrictions for a maximum of five people from two households are maintained. Larger families can only celebrate together during the Christmas period from December 24-26. A household can invite four more people from other households. Children up to 14 years old are not counted.
