John le Carré: the British writer is dead

British writer John le Carré, known for his spy thriller, died Saturday night at the age of 89, his agent Jonny Geller announced according to the AFP news agency. According to his family, he died of pneumonia. The family reported through Geller that he died after a “short battle with the disease.”

Le Carré was born on October 19, 1931 with the real name of David Cornwell in the county of Dorset, in the south of England. He studied German in Switzerland and eventually worked as a British secret service agent. Meanwhile, he began to write.

With his third novel, “The spy who came from the cold”, he made his great literary breakthrough. The book has sold more than 20 million copies and was made into a movie with Richard Burton in the title role.

Le Carré became known for his clever and suspenseful spy novels, which primarily revolved around the Cold War.
