Winfried Kretschmann does not want to wait any longer for the planned federal-state meeting. The corona virus is spreading in full force, also in Baden-Württemberg. The green-black government reacted and announced massive new restrictions for the entire country.
secondDue to the uncontrolled increase in corona infections, aden-Württemberg will go into lockdown after Christmas until at least January 10. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) announced on Friday that, if necessary, a joint solution would be sought with the neighboring states of Baden-Württemberg, provided that no uniform national solution could be found. What exactly the initially open lock should look like.
“Unfortunately, the situation is alarming,” Kretschmann emphasized. “We have signs of a renewed exponential increase in the number of new infections, so it is imperative that we drastically tighten measures.”
The state government and municipal state associations would jointly conclude that a hard lockdown after Christmas until at least January 10, 2021 would be essential. Kretschmann said he would advocate for such a step at the Prime Minister’s Conference with the Federal Chancellor, which is scheduled for Sunday. If you don’t agree on a uniform solution, the Southwest wants to move forward with neighboring countries.
Due to the sharp increase in new corona infections across Baden-Württemberg, the green-black cabinet will meet in Stuttgart on Friday for a special meeting. A press conference is then planned with Kretschmann and Deputy Prime Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU).
One in four citizens of Baden-Württemberg lives in a hotspot
The number of confirmed corona infections in the Southwest had recently increased by 4,208 cases in one day to a total of 179,154 infections since the start of the pandemic. At the national level, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days was 168.8 and, therefore, again higher than in previous days.
In Baden-Württemberg, almost one in four people now live in corona hotspots with an increasing number of infections, that is, regions with more than 200 people infected per 100,000 inhabitants in a week. In several urban and rural districts, stricter measures than state regulations are applied in the fight against the pandemic because this mark has been exceeded.
