reThe number of new corona infections and deaths reported to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in one day has reached a peak. Health authorities transmitted 29,875 new infections in 24 hours, according to figures from Friday morning. That’s more than 6,000 more than the day before, when a record 23,679 cases was also reached. Furthermore, the RKI reported 598 new deaths on Friday, the second highest in a short time. The highest daily death toll of 590 was reached on Wednesday.

The number of daily deaths has tended to rise recently, which was expected after the sharp increase in new infections. The total number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection increased to 20,970.

Merkel and Prime Minister will debate over the weekend

In total, the RKI has counted 1,272,078 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. Around 942,100 people are estimated to have recovered. The number of active corona cases increases to more than 300,000.

According to RKI’s management report on Thursday, the national seven-day R-value was 1.03 (previous day: 0.99). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 103 more people. The value has fluctuated around 1 for a few weeks and shows the infection process 8-16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection rate decreases.

Due to the increasing number of cases, many parties are calling for the crown lock to be hardened. The prime ministers of the federal states and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) are expected to discuss this over the weekend.

Meanwhile, according to a report, more than 10,000 doctors want to help vaccinate at corona vaccination centers in Germany. This was the result of a survey conducted by the Funke media group in the associations of compulsory health insurance physicians in the federal states. Deputy Director of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), Stephan Hofmeister, said: “The willingness of fellow residents is high to participate in the upcoming corona vaccines.” As soon as sufficient doses of vaccination are available, vaccinations should be from the centers. be relocated to doctor’s offices.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) hopes that the first vaccine can be administered no later than January. The vaccines will be distributed through nearly 30 distribution points in the federal states. From there it goes to the regional vaccination centers, for which halls, stadiums and hotels are being prepared. Later, the practices will take care of the vaccination in the area.
