Due to the large number of corona infections, Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schwesig, has called for quick decisions to establish stricter rules at the federal level. Now a closure of retail is necessary throughout Germany.
Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) on Thursday spoke in favor of tougher protection measures against the crown before Christmas. Due to the rapid increase in the number of infections, he supported the proposal for a German-wide lockdown. Schwesig announced consultations for the next few days between the country’s leaders and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) to make quick decisions.
Retail closings
The Prime Minister sees the closure of stores in retail, with the exception of food retail, as necessary for 4th Advent at the latest to reduce the number in this way. Schwesig announced that the state government would campaign for quick financial help regarding the threat of closures. Unlike stores, nurseries must remain open. For schools in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schwesig announced homeschooling from grade 7 onwards starting next week for regions of the state where the incidence value is greater than 50.
Schwesig Announces Nursing Home and Nursing Home Testing
Schwesig also announced that nursing homes would be better protected. There should be tests for nurses, residents, but also for visitors as soon as possible. Visits to relatives should only be possible in the future if they have a negative test. According to Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU), corona tests should also be used in rehabilitation facilities and hospitals. The decision on a nationwide mandatory testing strategy is due on Friday.
Announced financial support
Glawe once again advised against tourist travel during this time. That is why he promised Polish travelers who work here in the country, as well as their families, to cover the costs of accommodation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for 14 days.
Chilling at Christmas on the edge
The Prime Minister again noted that the current situation was critical. A second crown wave from the Czech Republic and Poland is moving directly towards Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The incidence value in the country is currently 66.7. It is urgent to act. It is also necessary to reconsider the extension of contacts to ten people from different households announced for Christmas and New Years.
Stricter rules already in Schwerin
Some regions have already taken the toughest first steps. In the city center of Schwerin you must wear a face mask and nose from today. The state capital issued a general decree on Wednesday night. The mask requirement applies until January 4 between 6 am and 10 pm Children until school entry and people with mental and medical impairments or a disability are excluded. In addition, alcohol service is prohibited in the entire city area. Alcohol may not be consumed in the streets, squares, and downtown areas where the mask requirement applies.
Increased number of new infections
On Wednesday, health authorities registered a new record for new infections with 298 cases, for the second day in a row. In Mecklenburg Lake District and Schwerin, weekly incidence figures have risen to more than 100 cases per 100,000 first-time residents.
