US reports more than 3,000 corona deaths in one day
At the end of November, many American citizens were out and about to celebrate Thanksgiving, as usual. Two weeks later, authorities now report 3,000 more deaths in Corona. More than ever in a day.
The number of daily deaths per crown in the US has reached a new high of more than 3,000. On Wednesday, there were another 3,011 deaths from the pandemic, according to figures from the New York Times. In addition, 218,000 new infections were recorded in one day. In California alone, the most populous of the 50 US states, there were more than 26,000 new infections in one day.
The number of Covid 19 patients in hospitals also hit a new record: on Wednesday there were more than 106,000 patients. The surge in cases was expected after millions of people ignored Thanksgiving calls two weeks ago to avoid trips and family visits.
The United States is numerically the country most affected by the corona pandemic in the entire world. Since the pandemic began, more than 15 million coronavirus infections have been detected in the United States and more than 289,000 people have died.
The new corona vaccines are now giving hope. On Thursday, the FDA’s vaccination commission is examining the application for emergency approval of the corona vaccine from Mainz-based company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer. If the independent vaccination commission votes in favor of an emergency approval, the FDA could issue it very quickly. The FDA said Tuesday that it classified the vaccine as safe and effective.
On Thursday next week, the US vaccination committee will deal with the request for emergency approval for the vaccine from the US pharmaceutical company Moderna. The administration of President-elect Donald Trump announced a goal of vaccinating 100 million American citizens by the end of March. Newly elected President Joe Biden, who will take office on January 20, aims to vaccinate 100 million citizens in 100 days.
