| Reading time: 2 minutes
The police are investigating one of the activists in the protests in the Dannenröder forest for attempted murder and property damage. It is said that he cut a tie from a falling frame.
northAfter a tree trunk collapsed in the direction of the police in the Dannenröder forest, the search for a suspect continues. The Gießen prosecutor and the police announced on Monday that a preliminary investigation had been launched on suspicion of attempted murder, assault on law enforcement officers and property damage.
Several witnesses observed that an unknown man cut a tie from the frame before it fell. Cleaning and clearing work for the construction of Autobahn 49 has been carried out in the forest since 10 November. Environmental and climate protection activists occupied the Dannenröder forest more than a year ago to prevent deforestation, which now is about to be completed.
The frame was a so-called duopod. In recent weeks, activists have repeatedly persisted in such structures made from tree trunks in the Dannenröder forest to stop logging.
On November 23, the frame tipped in the direction of emergency services, who, according to police, were able to jump aside just in time and were unharmed. Tree trunks also hit the safety cabin of an excavator, which withstood the impact, leaving the 51-year-old driver unharmed as well. However, property damage had occurred in the security booth, investigators said.
Following the incident, extensive investigations were carried out at the scene, including photographic documentation and measurements of the crime scene, a reconstruction of the crime, and the security of possible traces at the scene.
Police ask for help.
