Crown Crisis: First Day of National Action: Deutsche Bahn Increases Controls on Masks

Hundreds of federal police officers and security employees of Deutsche Bahn are in control throughout Germany on Monday, the main goal of compliance with the mask requirement on trains. Last week, the federally owned company announced that it wanted to intensify controls again in December.

Every day, up to 50 percent of long-distance trains must be monitored. With the day of action on Monday, the railway wants to call attention to the issue again. Exactly how many employees and officials will be on the road, and how many there are normally, the railroad has yet to announce.

“Violations are now the absolute exception,” said passenger transportation officer Berthold Huber. “To keep it that way and our customers feel even safer, we are once again increasing controls for Christmas and, at the same time, the seating capacity in long-distance transport for trips with the best possible distance.”

The use of a mask is mandatory on all public transport. Federal police have already warned tens of thousands of train conductors and station visitors for violations in recent weeks.
