Rescuers from the fire department surprised the little patients at the children’s clinic at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf on Saint Nicholas Day. Disguised as Santa Claus and superheroes, they rappelled down from the roof of the clinic building on Sunday.
The Corona year was very difficult for young patients because they often couldn’t even get a direct visit to the isolation rooms, fire department spokesman Jan Ole Unger said. That is why they wanted to make the children happy and distract them from the daily life of the hospital.
Superman and Batman there
Twelve tall rescuers participated in the action in their spare time and floated from the roof dressed as Superman, Spiderman, Batman or Darth Vader. The “boss superhero” is, of course, Santa Claus, Unger said.
Farmers deliver donations after moving the tractor
Later there was also a tractor movement: farmers from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein had collected 10,000 euros for the childhood cancer ward at UKE in a fundraising campaign and handed them over in the afternoon. The column had started in the Duchy of Lauenburg.
“When we learned that the regular fundraising campaigns for the childhood cancer ward could not be carried out this year due to the coronavirus, we immediately said: We will!”
