In Saxony-Anhalt, the dispute over the planned increase in the radio license fee affects not only the Kenyan coalition of the CDU, the Greens and the SPD and solidarity among the Christian Democrats. In the Magdeburg coalition agreement, the stability of the contribution for public broadcasting is agreed. The SPD and the Greens want to accept the increased contribution agreed between the state governments, the CDU does not. The AfD opposition is also against it.
Together, the CDU and the AfD would have a majority: the SPD and the Greens threaten the end of the coalition should it occur. Habeck reiterated a proposal to decide on the increase, but only to go into effect after negotiations on possible structural reforms.
State CDU remains relentless in dispute over contributions
The dismissed interior minister, Stahlknecht, had recently announced that he would resign as chairman of the state party of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt on 8 December 2020. He is doing this to avoid further damage to his party, his role, his family and himself, Stahlknecht said.
