Thuringia: Bodo Ramelow and Björn Höcke’s immunity from MPs lifted

After several complaints, the Thuringian prosecution wants to investigate Bodo Ramelow and Björn Höcke. Since the defendants are MPs, their parliamentary immunity had to be lifted first. Now the Landtag Justice Committee in Erfurt has unanimously approved the corresponding requests from the Thuringian investigation authorities.

The waiver of immunity in both cases was confirmed by parliamentarians from various political groups. The committee met behind closed doors.

Prime Minister Ramelow (left) asked MPs to grant the Erfurt prosecutor’s request so that the accusation of insulting him could be investigated. The reason is an incident in the state parliament in July when the left-wing politician showed the middle finger to AfD MP Stefan Möller from the government bank.

He also called Möller a “disgusting bastard” in a debate about the future handling of the NSU files. Möller then filed a complaint against the Prime Minister, who is also a member of parliament.

AfD Höcke’s right wing will be determined after two reports on suspicion of sedition and defamation. According to the prosecution, it should be, among other things, a statement by Höcke on social media that is said to have been directed against the marine rescuer Carola Rackete.
