In the crown hot spots in Baden-Württemberg, citizens will only be able to leave the house at night for good reason. Millions of people in the country could be affected by this.

The Baden-Württemberg state government agreed on night-out restrictions on Thursday in circles with more than 200 new infections per 100,000 residents in a week. Exceptions would apply for medical or work emergencies. The Ministry of Social Affairs wants to regulate the details in a decree. This should also specify more restrictions on hotspot areas, such as event bans.

Curfew in Mannheim from Friday

The city of Mannheim had already imposed a nightly curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The curfew should initially apply for ten nights, Friday through Saturday nights, Mayor Peter Kurz (SPD) said at an online press conference. Getting out of the house requires “valid reasons”, which you must be able to make credible during an inspection, Kurz said. This includes, for example, professional activities. The police are planning mobile and fixed checkpoints. The forces would be “massively reinforced” for the controls.

For days and sometimes weeks, various cities and regions of the country have exceeded the incidence value of 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week. In addition to the cities of Mannheim, Pforzheim and Heilbronn, the district of Schwarzwald-Baar and the districts of Lörrach and Tuttlingen are currently above this value. Some 1.1 million people would be affected by special access point rules, more than a tenth of all residents of Baden-Württemberg.

The Tuttlingen district and the Schwarzwald-Baar district are also planning new contact restrictions and an expanded mask requirement. On Friday, both circles want to publish a general decree that will be applied from Saturday.

Stronger contact rules and exit restrictions are being considered.

The decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs regulates whether there will be more measures for hotspots in Baden-Württemberg in addition to the night curfew and the ban on events. Among other things, there are stricter room contact restrictions: households should only be able to meet with one other person (excluding children under 14 years of age). Hair salons and tanning salons would have to close again.

Visits to hospitals and healthcare centers should only be allowed after a previous antigen test or with an FFP2 mask. Also, the easing during Christmas days for hotspot regions could be canceled.
