The black-red-green coalition in Saxony-Anhalt was unable to reach an agreement in the dispute over the transmission fee increase on Tuesday. The ruling parties spoke in the coalition committee about the CDU’s proposal to postpone the state parliament vote on the planned transmission fee adjustment. With this, the CDU wanted to avoid the imminent rupture of the coalition. The SPD and the Greens rejected the proposal.

The three groups could not agree on how to proceed. While the CDU wants to discuss the issue of broadcast fees in the media committee of the state parliament on Wednesday, the SPD and the Greens proposed a postponement. Due to this question, the coalition committee was convened for the second time, the round will begin on Tuesday night.

Extraordinary meeting of the CDU parliamentary group

The day began with a special meeting of the CDU parliamentary group. MPs stood firm in their rejection of higher transmission rates. The CDU parliamentary group leader Siegfried Borgwardt said after the meeting: “We keep our word. With the CDU parliamentary group there will be no increase in contributions for citizens of Saxony-Anhalt, for companies and for the artisans. “

The CDU parliamentary group agreed with Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff’s proposal not to vote on the state treaty in December and to renegotiate it. The most important reason mentioned was that the contract was not ready for a decision due to the Corona crisis.

Purpose of the CDU: debate on the mission and structure of public broadcasting

The state government will be asked to withdraw the amendment to the State Broadcasting Treaty. The goal should be to enter into negotiations with the commission to determine the financial needs of the issuers (KEF) and other responsible partners, Borgwardt said.

This is to achieve “a new calculation, a debate on the mission, scope and structure of future public broadcasting.”

Dispute over the media committee

The issue of adapting the radio license fee should also be discussed in the media committee of the state parliament on Wednesday. The CDU announced that the meeting would go ahead as planned. Shortly before, Green’s boss Sebastian Striegel had said the committee would be postponed until next week. The SPD is also in favor of a postponement.
