After the targeted assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the Federal Foreign Ministry called for more caution in the Middle East. The European Union condemned the murder as a “crime”.
Israel’s secret service minister has now described the criticism of the deadly attack as “hypocrisy.” “You are very well aware of Iranian attempts to obtain nuclear weapons,” Minister Eli Cohen told the Israeli army station. Tehran also supports radical groups throughout the region.
“Instead of speaking very clearly about the necessary sanctions, rather than ensuring that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons, we see them (the Europeans, editor’s note) burying their heads in the sand again,” the secret service minister said.
Fakhrizadeh was killed Friday in a suburb of the capital, Tehran. Iran immediately blamed the United States and Israel. The Jewish state government has not officially commented on the act. Cohen also said he did not know who was behind the crime.
“I can say, however, that I did not cry over Fakhrizadeh’s death,” Cohen said. The nuclear physicist was involved in Iran’s nuclear weapons efforts. His death is positive for the Middle East and the entire world.
“Israel has made it clear that Iran will not allow nuclear weapons to be obtained,” he said. “Iran calls for the destruction of Israel and therefore, from our point of view, all those actively involved in nuclear weapons efforts are dead.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already appointed Fakhrizadeh in April 2018 as head of a former secret Iranian nuclear weapons program called “Amad.”
