Hoffenheim need 20 minutes to enter the game

Mainz striker Jean-Philippe Mateta got his first chance early, but his header was strongly parried by Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann (8th). As a result, there were more top-class hosts for the hosts, who blended heavily in the powerful opening phase, but missed a previous tour multiple times.

Only after 20 minutes did Hoffenheim, without winning for more than two months in the Bundesliga, grew stronger. A header from Stefan Posch and a shot from Kramaric were unsuccessful. On the other hand, Quaison gave the 05ers the advantage they deserved.

Goalkeeper Zentner prevents more Hoffenheim goals

After a ten-minute break at half-time, the 1899 coach Hoeneß sent his players back onto the field; from that moment on, the TSG was much more offensive. Numerous attacks rolled towards Mainz’s goal, but the last stop was always strong goalkeeper Robin Zentner, who kept Mainz from drawing for a long time with hand, head and foot.

Then Ryan Sessegnon played a strong cross to Bebou, who hit it and made it 1-1. Mateta could have decided the game on the other side, but he shot the post after a great solo (75th). In the latter stages, Hoffenheim’s Dennis Geiger was given the red card after an unnecessary foul on Onisiwo from behind.

Next week, Mainz 05 will compete on Saturday afternoon (3:30 pm) against Arminia Bielefeld. 1899 Hoffenheim does not host the FC Augsburg team until Monday night (8.30pm).
