Today in Hamburg, the subways and buses are stopped all day. Ver.di calls on employees of Hochbahn and the Hamburg-Holstein transport company (VHH) to start a warning strike.
Collective bargaining failed last week. In an open letter, local transport workers in Hamburg ask for your understanding. The ver.di union is calling for new rules for overtime and days off in particular. The hours and the traffic on the streets barely left time to go to the bathroom, the letter said.

Ver.di accuses Hochbahn of having taken the negotiations to the wall and wants Transportes Senator Anjes Tjarks (Greens) to get involved. The municipal company has called the union to arbitration and considers it irresponsible to call a 24-hour warning strike during Christmas and Corona. Therefore, the union is hurting downtown retail, whose employees also represent ver.di.
Today’s strike ends at 3 am on Sunday morning. The S-Bahn and regional trains should run normally today.
Not the first warning strike
In mid-October, during a 24-hour warning strike, local public transport in and around Hamburg was almost completely stopped. Only S-Bahn and regional trains were not affected. By the end of September, the employees had also stopped working.
