The Saxon state government has adopted new rules to contain the corona pandemic. Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Health Minister Petra Köpping are currently presenting the new regulation at a press conference. It goes into effect on December 1 and is initially valid until December 28. Kretschmer announced, however, that the regulation will run until at least early January. The ordinance will be written in the evening and posted on Saturday.
Exit constraints from an occurrence value of 200
The new measures include an exit restriction of a charge of 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week. Then people could only leave the house for valid reasons. They should not move more than 15 kilometers from their place of residence. Currently, only the city and district of Leipzig and the district of Meißen are below the value of 200.
Kretschmer asked citizens to understand and follow these steps. “We have to act,” he said, referring to the already difficult medical care.
If things don’t work out, all that’s left is a complete lockdown. To avoid that, we need to lower the number.
Effects on schools and nurseries in high incidence areas
In so-called high incidence areas, measures will also be strengthened in schools and nurseries. Education Minister Christian Piwarz stressed that kindergartens and schools with face-to-face teaching remain “the first medium of choice.” To ensure this safely and with the fewest possible restrictions, the following measures were decided for schools:
- Wearing a nose and mouth cap in class is mandatory for all types of schools from seventh grade onward.
- The principle of fixed classes is being introduced in all primary schools and schools with special needs in high incidence areas, without restricting the canon of the subject.
- Secondary schools begin alternating classes in consultation with the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. Final grades and grades 5 and 6 are generally excluded.
So far, schools have mastered it excellently. I am also aware that this involves enormous effort.
All hygiene and protection measures against previous infections continue to be applied. Christmas break begins on December 21, 2020. That means the last day of school is December 18, 2020.
What is changing in daycare:
Starting at the 200 mark, regular operation is limited with the strict separation of care groups and caregivers. Children of different groups and their responsible caregivers must be urgently separated. So-called “open concepts” are not allowed until further notice.
Approval of measures by government parties and the left
Members of the government coalition support the key points of the new Crown Protection Ordinance. It is good that from a seven-day incident of more than 200 additional restrictions are prescribed, which district administrators have to implement, said Sabine Friedel of the SPD. CDU’s Alexander Dierks added that the exit restrictions sounded worse than they really are. You can still do all the things in everyday life, Dierks said. The Greens have announced the need for additional crown protection regulations. For example, the testing strategy for students and teachers who are in quarantine must be clearly and consistently regulated.
The opposition left also supports new, stricter measures in view of the infection situation in the Free State. However, Sarah Buddeberg on the left criticizes that Thursday’s discussion in state parliament was just a “simulation of participation.” The AfD criticizes the new Crown Protection Ordinance as the only party represented in the state parliament. Risk groups must be protected with masks and otherwise return to normal, demands Ralf Weigand from the AfD.
More information will be forthcoming.
