Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) has made a government statement in the state parliament. He defended his special way in the crown measures.
Daniel Günther explained this morning at the state house in Kiel why Schleswig-Holstein is taking an independent course to combat the corona pandemic. He also defended the measures again. “The regionally adapted behavior is absolutely correct,” he said in his speech regarding the number of cases in Schleswig-Holstein. He was pleased that the federal-state conference managed to agree common rules across the country. The head of government further emphasized: However, it was stipulated for the first time that these rules do not have to be applied equally in all countries, but can be adapted to the current outbreak. Günther also announced that the country will allow hotel stays for family visits during Christmas.
Coordinated with opposition groups
From December 23 to 27 a maximum of two nights is allowed. Jamaica’s coalition had agreed on this on Thursday night and also coordinated it with the opposition factions. The head of government justified the decision with social responsibility. For example, anyone coming from Baden-Württemberg should be able to spend the night here. And having to do it on a 40-square-meter flat would not be virologically prudent either.
Until now, there were exceptions for overnight stays only for professional reasons, socio-ethical reasons (for example, funeral care or death) or reasons of medical motivation (for example, accompanying a child during a hospital stay). Overnight stays for tourist purposes are currently prohibited in hotels, holiday apartments and guest houses.
Some relaxation for the country
Günther had announced several special regulations for Schleswig-Holstein on Wednesday after deliberations between the federal states and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU). Due to the low number of infections, there will be small loosening in some areas. The manicure, cosmetic and massage studios can reopen from Monday. This also applies to animal parks, zoos, and game reserves. Günther said these are important initial steps that are justifiable. For the catering sector, however, it does not consider openings to be conceivable until January at the earliest.
Reflections of the opposition leader Stegner
Opposition leader Ralf Stegner of the SPD addressed the emotional consequences of the Corona crisis and the lack of human closeness. “We may not miss the hygienically dubious German handshakes, but hugs are lacking. And the usual human closeness too,” he said and appealed: Solidarity remains the order of the day. This is not the time for carelessness or irrationality. Protecting the health of the population takes priority over everything else.

Stegner is also concerned about the situation on buses in school traffic. “It remains incomprehensible that schoolchildren sit together on crowded buses in the mornings and afternoons to be carefully separated into groups at school.” He does not understand that in the country unused buses go around because responsibility is transferred from one to another. This problem needs to be addressed, called social democratic.
The new state regulation goes into effect on Monday
On Sunday, the Kiel cabinet wants to pass a new state ordinance with the new crown measures. It should take effect on Monday.
