▶ ︎ Starting Friday (November 27), only window seats can be reserved on trains. The aisle seats are blocked.
▶ ︎ Table: For seating groups with a table, only the diagonally opposite seats can be reserved (window seat on one side and aisle seat on the opposite side).
► Compartment: In closed compartments with six seats, only two seats can be reserved, the window seat on one side and the aisle seat on the other.
▶ ︎ Operational exceptions if part of the train is missing and seats are missing. Then the rail employees should check the seating assignments and distribute them when the going gets tough.
▶ ︎ The mask requirement is more stringent.
In total, Deutsche Bahn only offers 60 percent of seats to reserve. By the way, there will be NO general reservation requirement.
The train says: All travelers, even those without a reservation, must be carried. However, passengers are urgently requested to inquire about the cargo on the trains during Christmas and, if necessary, take another train.
Will there be chaos at Christmas?
For families with, say, four passengers, additional areas are offered on each train so that they can sit next to each other, in first and second class.
To avoid rail chaos at Christmas due to the increased number of trips, additional seats will be created using the new ICE 7000. In addition, the schedule will be reset. The goal is to implement the 20 million seat-kilometers per day that prime ministers demanded at the Corona summit with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).
That means: An ICE with 800 seats travels 300 kilometers from Berlin to Hannover. 800 times 300 is 240,000 kilometers of seat.
The changes are coming, although the transport ministers of the federal states and the federal minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer (CSU) had spoken out against a general reduction of the space in the network of all the railroad and in the local public transport the last week.
