Measures against the spread of the corona virus are also spreading in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. While the contact restrictions will be tightened, the above rules will remain in retail.

The federal and state governments agreed to extend the strict anti-crown measures. Also in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities will be closed until at least December 20. This was announced by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) after the federal-state consultations on Wednesday night. Schwesig made a possible loosening dependent on the development of the infection process.

Broken wave, but the numbers are still too high

The goal should be to further restrict contacts, Schwesig said. There will also be financial aid for this in December. So far, the partial blockade has shown effect and has broken the wave of new infections. But the numbers are still too high. If the situation does not improve by December 20, the measures could be extended further.

Number of people allowed for private meetings reduced by half

Contact restrictions will be tightened until December 23. All the data showed that infections are increasing in private sector meetings, according to Schwesig: “The lousy and unpleasant thing about the coronavirus is that it particularly strikes where it is most beautiful,” said the prime minister. Until now, two households of up to ten people could meet, in the future the number of people will be reduced to five. Children up to 14 years old are not counted, they are less infectious.

More contacts are allowed during the holidays

More contacts are allowed again during Christmas and the turn of the year. Then gatherings of friends and families of up to ten people are allowed regardless of home, Schwesig said. Social cohesion is important and more should be possible during Christmas. Everyone must act with caution.

Kindergartens and schools open, start of Christmas holidays unchanged

The Prime Minister emphasized that kindergartens and schools will remain open: “Face-to-face teaching in schools is more than just education, it is meeting friends.” This cannot be compensated for with hybrid or digital lessons. Testing capacity will be improved and health authorities will decide on possible quarantine measures. And he stays with the beginning of the Christmas holidays on December 19, so Schwesig.

The country still has the lowest infection values nationwide. Therefore, it will not follow the stricter retail rules of other countries, Schwesig explained. Basically, according to the federal-state agreement, there should be a maximum of one person for every 10 square meters of sales area in stores with a sales area of up to 800 square meters. For larger stores, a maximum of one person per 20 square meters of sales area is allowed to use the additional space. It was initially unclear whether Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania would also deviate from the recently resolved mask requirement in front of retail stores and in parking lots.

A crown summit is planned in Schwerin on Saturday. There, the resolutions will be incorporated into the Corona state ordinance, which will then go into effect on December 1.
