Classes in Baden-Württemberg schools should last until December 22. But the coronavirus pandemic could ruin plans.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) is due to the corona pandemic for an earlier start of students in the Christmas break than previously planned. A government spokesman said Monday night that it wanted to tackle the longer Christmas break in the next federal-state switch.

Early start of planned holidays

In Baden-Württemberg, as in other countries, the last day of classes is December 22 (Tuesday). If the students already on 18.12. (Friday) would be released on vacation, you have a stretch of five to six days until Christmas Eve, which you can use to minimize contacts. “Then you will go to your grandparents with a more relaxed feeling at parties and you will celebrate Christmas with your family,” said the State Ministry.

The Ministry of Education and Culture emphasized two weeks ago that it would not order longer Christmas holidays across the country because it could raise organizational issues and pose problems for many parents. However, individual schools across the country can extend the Christmas break this year with flexible vacation days. In Baden-Württemberg there are four mobile vacation days this school year.

Kretschmann for a mask requirement in public spaces

On Wednesday, the federal and state governments want to clarify how the crown’s measures will continue and how Germany will spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve. According to the information, Kretschmann wants to advocate for a general mask requirement in public spaces. In his opinion, the use of face and nose masks should be mandatory in all places open to the public in city centers, even outdoors, where people are in confined spaces or not only temporarily.
