Corona vaccination centers in Bavaria: the first locations have been established

The districts and cities of Bavaria are looking for suitable locations for corona vaccination centers. The plan is for all 96 centers to be ready in December if possible. The vaccine is expected to be available soon.

Vaccination in exhibition halls, old banks and ice rink

When it comes to finding locations, municipalities rely on large salons. The Ebersberg district, for example, has a former savings bank room and the Regen ice rink is undergoing renovations. The state pays the costs, from the rent of the room to the vaccination dose, emphasizes the local district administrator Rita Röhrl (SPD). “I am happy to live in a country where vaccination centers are available for free for those who want to vaccinate and this is not a career that is decided with the wallet or who has the best connections.”

In Nuremberg, the location of the planned vaccination center has already been determined: the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. Many municipal departments are involved in planning, preparations and construction are coordinated by the Nuremberg fire brigade. In Deggendorf, containers for vaccines have already been installed at the fairgrounds, as a district spokesperson said.

In Bamberg, there will be a vaccination center in the lobby of the Brose Arena. In the building, it is likely that up to five vaccination areas with dividing walls will be established. There is enough parking space in front of the sand. 200,000 people should be cared for at the vaccination center.

The rolling vaccination mobile

In addition to the stationary center, each district will travel with a mobile unit. The vaccination mobile will visit care centers for the elderly and to be able to vaccinate those who no longer have mobility, if they so wish.

The corona vaccination will be carried out according to a plan. First, the vaccine should be offered to people who are at increased risk of infection. This includes, for example, the elderly and the sick in care centers, but also the staff of clinics, emergency services, the police or day care centers. In the second phase, the rest of the population can be vaccinated for free.

When the time comes, the responsible health department will give the dates for it, according to the plan. Just go and get vaccinated, it won’t work, said Health Minister Melanie Huml. She emphasizes over and over again: Vaccination remains absolutely voluntary.

Municipalities are looking for staff

Health Minister Huml explains that the federal government will bring the vaccines to nine central locations, after which the Free State of Bavaria will take over the logistics and distribute them to the region. For one thing, vaccines need to be properly stored. On the other hand, it is about registering and caring for those who wish to be vaccinated. This requires specialists and medical assistants.

Cities and municipalities must take care of this themselves. Many advertise the vaccination center as a service so that a third-party service provider can offer everything from a single source, from admission to an upper arm “stick.” According to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, resident physicians are also willing to provide support at vaccination centers.
