He just wants to go on vacation for a few days and then this: Murot meets a man who could be his twin. They both get drunk and the twin dies the next morning. Murot enters his life to find the murderer. The new one was created hr crime scene “Monsieur Murot’s Vacation”, especially at the Taunus.
The hotel
When Murot is on vacation, he does not get lost in the distance, but stays in a small hotel in the Taunus, cycles through the countryside, reads and eats well. The hotel you are staying at is actually the Schlosshotel Rettershof in Kelkheim, near the Königstein district of Schneidhain.
The restaurant
The restaurant scene where Murot meets his “doppelganger” Boenfeld was created again in the nearby main location of Königstein: you dine at Villa Borgnis in the Kurhaus am Park.
The villa is a traditional building that was originally built in the early 19th century. In 1883 it was bought by the Frankfurt banker Matthias Franz Borgnis as a summer residence. The family rebuilt it several times and in 1926 it moved to the city. Starting in 1927, the building was used as a spa house, later it was converted into a venue for events, including a registry office.
The country road
After a night out, Boenfeld is found dead on a country road and mistaken for Murot due to a clothing swap. The location was Oberemser Straße (L3023) near Idstein-Kröftel.
Later scenes, such as Murot’s excursion with Boenfeld’s wife, were also made here.
The car dealer
Murot takes advantage of the confusion and investigates “undercover” in the family, where no one suspects at first. Murot is also not recognized at the Boenfelds car dealership.
In reality, the dealership is not located in Taunus, but in an industrial area in the Bergen-Enkheim district of Frankfurt.
In Frankfurt, the film was shot elsewhere: the Hessischer Rundfunk rooms in Dornbusch served as a police and pathology station. The cemetery scene in which Murot observes his own funeral was created in the main cemetery on Eckenheimer Landstrasse.
The tennis club
While playing tennis, Murot and Boenfeld’s wife get closer later. The film was shot at the Bad Homburg tennis club.
By the way, the scene is a kind of homage to Jacques Tati’s “Monsieur Hulot vacation” of 1953.
