Another protest and counter-demonstrations of “lateral thinking” in Leipzig

Who do you expect for the “lateral thinking” protest?

“Leipzig takes a seat” expects significantly more right-wing extremists on the opposite side than at the November 7 demonstration in Leipzig. Among other things, Jürgen Elsässer, editor-in-chief of Compact magazine, was called in Berlin on Wednesday to come to Leipzig, explains SPD policy Irena Rudolph-Kokot. He also talks about “Leipzig takes place”. Compact magazine is considered a conspiratorial ideology.

According to its own information, the Saxon constitutional protection agency also expects right-wing extremists to get involved. The authority announced on Friday that the right-wing extremist scene will mobilize for the rally. Citizens of the Reich and violent groups like the hooligans could also come to Leipzig. The authority also observed mobilizations from the left-wing extremist zone. However, the Office of the Attorney for the Protection of the Constitution expects a “heterogeneous protest”, as has also been demonstrated in previous events in the “lateral thinking” scenario.

Determining the number of participants is difficult

For the registered meeting of the “Central Germany Rises and Moves” initiative, the city assumes about 250 participants. Arno Dutch from Erfurt, who is one of the supporters of the demonstration, expects a five-digit number of protesters in Leipzig. “And there will be no one at the beginning,” he told the MDR. Apparently, it is taking over 20,000 participants.

Police expected a “significant number” of participants

Police have been preparing for a weekend demonstration for almost a week. Immediately after the call for a meeting of the Thuringia “lateral thinking” area was known, preparations for the deployment began, said Leipzig police department spokesman Olaf Hoppe. They are in close contact with the assembly authority of the city of Leipzig. Hoppe hopes “that a not inconsiderable number will follow the call.” The police want to focus on ensuring that gatherings are peaceful, criminal offenses are avoided and protection against infection is respected. Meanwhile, the police have announced that they are assuming the number of participants in the lower four-digit range.
