Exhausted console and angry fans

The PS5 was shortly available for pre-order on November 19, but that caused a lot of chaos among retailers.

The big launch of PlayStation 5 took place on November 19, 2020, some players were able to pre-order their consoles weeks ago and then received them on time. Others sadly got nothing, but at launch there should be hope that the console will hit the house before Christmas. This third wave has now again ended in great chaos and angry fans.

The promised

Sony announced a few weeks ago that there would be a third wave of new PS5 consoles available for pre-order. In the past few days, more and more retailers have said that they will be getting new assignments on November 19 and that some fans will be happy.

Few consoles: Expectations were also set directly low. Both Sony and the distributors clearly communicated that there will not be many consoles at launch. If you want a copy, you have to not only be quick but also be lucky.

The (next) PS5 pre-order mayhem

Most of the fans approached Wave 3 beforehand with little expectation, but things turned out to be even worse than expected.

Total failure on Amazon.de: Amazon Germany was the only retailer to announce that PlayStation 5 would be activated for preorder at 1pm sharp. Experience shows that this caused a large influx of visitors to the site. At 1pm, Amazon’s servers went to their knees.

Although precautionary measures had already been taken, product pages other than the PlayStation 5 were no longer accessible. Also, pre-orders were not posted on time. With a little delay it was possible for a very short time. Much to the chagrin of many fans, these contingents quickly disappeared, which, along with the error messages, made it impossible for many to get hold of a console.

Reactions on Twitter are just as intense (and sometimes hilarious):

@derletztekonrad: “I buy all the Playstation5 controllers from Amazon right away, just so I don’t have to see them when the page reloads.”

@ K3nJi_: “The online sale of ps5 is a catastrophe … It only consists of a loooong time, nothing works and chaos and in the end everything is sold out. And you have not even seen anything online”

But even those who pre-order are not guaranteed to get a PS5 today, as this Twitter user painfully had to discover:

Not even better with the rest: The other traders faced very similar problems. No exact times were given, but GameStop and Otto used up their entire inventory in just a few minutes. The former even started pre-ordering at midnight, but he didn’t spend long there either. On all sides, the rush also caused the servers to crash for a short time.

What’s next now?

For everyone with pre-orders: First of all, congratulations to everyone who somehow made it. According to most retailers, the consoles reserved today will be delivered before Christmas. Amazon, for example, gives December 14 as the delivery date, with other retailers it amounts to a similar situation. But also keep in mind that this is just a guide, something can always get in the way or change.

For everyone without pre-orders: For you, the wait now goes into another round. Neither Sony nor the distributors announced any more waves. There will even likely be few to no new PlayStation 5 contingents this year. Even if some will be released in December, they will probably no longer air before 2021.

And with you? Do you already have the console? Maybe you could reserve them today? Like most others, have you been bombarded by error pages? Or do you just wait a few more months until the needs are reasonably met?
