Suburb – The reason for the tragic accident on the A3, in which a Cologne woman († 66) was killed by a concrete slab in her car on Friday, is probably a failure. This was announced by the state company “Straßen.NRW” in the evening.
Consequently, during the assembly of the plate (2.50 by 5.30 meters, almost five tons) in 2007, the anchor in the concrete frame was not placed correctly. And fully aware of it!
“The construction found does not correspond to the execution planning,” he said. Six more plates were placed in the same way. They should be dismantled as soon as possible, provided that the two outer lanes of the accident zone remain closed.
Apparently the faulty construction was chosen due to lack of space when mounting the panels.
“Based on the current state of knowledge, it must be assumed that it is a deliberate flaw,” the report says.
During the last main inspection on September 17, 2013, the incorrect construction could not be determined according to “Straßen.NRW”, because it was located in an invisible place and was covered by the noise protection panel.
NRW Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (45, CDU) will report to the transport committee in the state parliament on Wednesday.
