US President Donald Trump lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden. So far, he hasn’t admitted it. Instead, the Republican presents himself as the victim of extensive electoral fraud. On Twitter, he has now talked about Biden’s election victory for the first time, but he also repeated his accusations of fraud.
“He won because the election was rigged,” Trump wrote in his post. Twitter immediately reacted to the statement and issued a warning.
With his statement, Trump reacts to a tweet in which a presenter on the television channel Fox News wondered how Biden could be ahead if he had a weak electoral campaign. It repeats its allegations, which have not yet been substantiated, that election observers were not admitted and that the software used during the count falsified the results.
Trump’s attorneys are filing various lawsuits in various states. It wasn’t until Sunday night that he put the legal battle over the election results in the hands of his lawyer and longtime partner, Rudy Giuliani.
According to calculations by the US media, Biden clearly won the election. On Friday, television stations CNN and ABC declared the former vice president the winner in the beleaguered southern state of Georgia. With 16 Georgia voters, Biden now has 306 of the country’s 538 voters, and needed 270 to win an election. Trump, who was proclaimed the winner in the equally disputed North Carolina, has a total of 232 voters. Biden’s lead is seen as sufficient to withstand the recounts and partial success of Trump’s earlier demands.
Thousands of Trump supporters protest alleged election fraud
Regardless, thousands of Trump supporters took to the streets for a second term for President of the United States. The protesters demanded “four more years” for Trump in the White House despite Biden’s election victory on Saturday and denounced alleged electoral fraud. Trump greeted fans from his presidential limousine on the way to golf.
Trump’s convoy passed Freedom Plaza on its way to his golf club on the outskirts of the US capital, where at least 10,000 supporters of the president from across the country had gathered. Trump smiled and greeted the protesters who were cheering him from inside the car. On Friday night he had promised to “come and say hello” to the protesters.
For days, President Trump has been talking about alleged election fraud and accusing Democrats of wanting to “steal” his election. To date, the electoral authorities have not reported major irregularities in any state. On Thursday, high-ranking representatives of the US electoral authorities even decisively rejected the allegations of fraud in a joint statement: the November 3 elections were “the safest in US history.”
