Ten seriously ill Covid-19 patients died of severe burns Saturday night at a hospital in the northeastern Romanian city of Piatra Neamt.
The fire had broken out in the intensive care unit, where a total of 16 patients were artificially ventilated. Seven other people suffered severe burns, including the doctor in charge of the intensive care unit.

According to the authorities, it is likely that a short circuit caused the fire. The media commented that the oxygen in the fans may have made the fire worse.
Health Minister Nelu Tataru immediately traveled to the scene of the accident. The prosecutor was expected to investigate the causes. (dpa / mg)
