The secret service wants to have avoided the hit

Only a few days have passed since the agreement to end the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Armenian secret service has now reported that it has prevented an attack on Prime Minister Pashinyan.

The Armenian authorities reportedly prevented an attack on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the coup plotters from seizing power. The NSS said on Saturday that three people had been arrested. They had planned to seize power by assassinating the Prime Minister, and there had already been talk of people for his successor.

Among those arrested are former NSS chief Artur Vanetsjan and former Republican parliamentary leader Vahram Baghdasarjan.

Criticism after the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh

Prime Minister Pashinyan has come under fire from numerous Armenians after accepting the ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave. During protests against his decision, he was also nicknamed “traitor”. Armenia and Azerbaijan had fought heavy fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh for weeks. Most Armenian Christians live there. Under international law, the South Caucasus region belongs to predominantly Islamic Azerbaijan, which it renounced in 1991.

Mediated by Russia, a ceasefire was negotiated earlier this week to end the fighting. The discontent of many Armenians is mainly directed against the fact that the land captured by the Azerbaijani army must remain under the control of Azerbaijan.
