According to the district office, 47 people tested positive for the corona virus in the private home on Saturday. 27 of them were residents. 17 employees are also infected, the district office said. A spokesman for the district office told the Berliner Morgenpost that three contacts had tested positive.

Corona outbreak at home: 12 residents died

In the nursing home, twelve infected people died in five weeks. This was the result of an investigation by the Berliner Morgenpost, which was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the operating company Kursana. Eleven people died at the hospital, where they were referred with symptoms, he said. “As far as we know, they all had serious previous illnesses or were in the palliative phase.” The Tagesspiegel had already reported on it.

On October 8, a first resident tested positive during a hospital stay, the spokeswoman said. “Subsequently, series of partial tests were carried out on individual housing areas. On November 3, whole house test results were available for the first time. “

Nursing home in Lichtenberg closed to visitors

The house has been closed to visitors since the first case occurred. “All hygiene measures are implemented according to the RKI standard, all employees work with FFP-2 masks and additional surface disinfection is carried out regularly.” Living areas with Covid-19 cases were immediately quarantined. “Since the first case in early October, we have been in close contact with the health department about the measures to be implemented and we coordinate the procedure.”

Corona outbreak: partially evacuated nursing home

The responsible physician determined a “subacute nursing emergency.” A spokesman for the Lichtenberg district office said Saturday. “Subacute” means a level less than acute and threatening. Adequate care for residents is not guaranteed in current circumstances, especially since many nurses are infected and absent. That is why the medical officer ordered part of the eviction on Friday.

Partial evacuation of a retirement home: 14 residents relocated so far

A joint crisis team agreed to transfer 14 residents who tested positive to other facilities. Some of the residents need “intensive care.” But that doesn’t mean they are in intensive care units, the district office spokesman said. In addition, there must be infected living areas to separate the infected from the uninfected residents. Starting in the middle of next week, employees should use the corona rapid tests before starting work.

The partial evacuation continued until Friday night. The fire department supported the evacuation with 20 employees who provided logistical assistance. The German Red Cross organized the transport with about 30 employees. The measures were carried out in close coordination with the Senate Health Department and the Lichtenberg Health Department.

For those affected, so far 46 locations have been found in other facilities, he said. These include hospitals, but also emergency rooms for care. In each individual case, however, relocation must be weighed. Residents would now be housed in immediate clinics in accordance with quarantine regulations, the spokesperson said. The others would stay in the privately run house.

The doctor continues to investigate the situation, also to clarify if there were deficiencies in the home. The operating company of the retirement home announced a statement Saturday afternoon.

Retirement Homes – Corona Infections Usually Come From Nursing Staff

The multi-storey senior residential complex has a total of 108 single rooms and 20 double rooms. In general, Berlin doctors see visitors as a lower risk of infection at home. Most of the time, staff were infected, although protection concepts had been improved in many places since spring. In Berlin, there have been several outbreaks in care centers since the beginning of the pandemic and there have also been deaths in connection with a corona infection.

Mayor: Shows how widespread the virus is now in the population

Lichtenberg District Mayor Michael Grunst (left) is shocked after the corona virus outbreak became known at the nursing home. “It shows how widespread the virus is now in the population.” In view of the many nurses who tested positive, he feared more cases in the next week, Grunst said.

Corona case at the district office

According to Tagesspiegel, there should also be a crown case at the district office. Consequently, spokesman Prokop Bowtromiuk tested positive. The district assembly, which was supposed to take place last Thursday, had already been canceled. According to the Tagesspiegel, employees had to be screened for Corona.
