According to Anthony Fauci, the top US immunologist, Covid-19 “won’t be a pandemic for long” thanks to rapid advances in vaccine development.
The corona virus could continue to exist for years, as cited by the Bloomberg Fauci news site. Fauci said at an event organized by the British think tank “Chatham House”, people would have to continue to adhere to measures such as oral and nasal protection, hand washing and social distancing. A virus mutation discovered in Danish mink is unlikely to affect vaccine development.
Fauci added that the public must also be prepared that protection against the virus, whether through vaccines or because the virus has been fought, will only last a year or two. This statement is based on experience with similar viruses and the growing number of documented cases in which people were twice infected with the coronavirus.
Help is on the way, but it’s not there yet, Fauci said, urging people to persevere.
