Migraines, Covid-19, Lactose Intolerance – If you Google certain diseases, you will now find an information box with scientifically proven information. Health Minister Spahn defended cooperation with the TI group.
When doing a Google search for numerous diseases, the TI group recently began providing information in a featured box on scientifically verified findings. The Federal Ministry of Health started a collaboration with the company. In the table you can see the answers of the national health portal “heil.bund.de”.
Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn said the corona pandemic also shows the importance of reliable health information. Expect a boost in health portal awareness. “If we are interested in delivering objective, well-founded and evidence-based information, then it is of no use to me that 783,000 appear on Google.”
160 most common diseases
The information offer begins with the 160 most common diseases. With a link to the information boxes above, users can go directly to the article on the health portal.
The information comes from the German Cancer Research Center, the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care, the Robert Koch Institute and medical societies. The health portal also contains articles on topics such as care or prevention.
No data transfer
Google Central Europe Vice President Philipp Justus said personal or other data will not be passed on to the Federal Ministry of Health or other authorities. Offers from the federal health portal would be integrated.
Each user can decide whether to go to the portal by clicking on. “Also, they don’t share data with each other.” Google’s usual data protection standards would apply.
Minister defends cooperation
Using the example of entering “migraine”, Spahn said: “With this and after this cooperation, Google knows nothing more and nothing less than if you had entered ‘migraine’ before the cooperation.” Regarding the cooperation with Google as a whole, he said that it was a fact that the vast majority of Germans use Google every day.
